    Bronze sculpture with a brown patina depicting a female bust wearing a heart-shaped headdress resting on an onyx base. Signature "J. Garnier" for Jean Garnier (1853-1930). Note some chips on the base.

    Jean Garnier (1853-1930), sculptor, enameler, and chaser from Mouzeuil-Saint-Martin, in Vendée. Self-taught, he mastered various materials such as marble, terracotta, bronze, and pewter. He also created enamel jewelry. He enjoyed a notable career in Paris, participating regularly in the Salon from 1883 to 1905, before returning to his native region in 1910. His works included Art Nouveau sculptures and monuments. He died in poverty and neglect in 1930.
