Bronze sculpture with medal patina representing Diana the Huntress after Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828). In Roman mythology, Diana is the goddess of the hunt and of the night, likened to Artemis in Greek mythology. She is represented wearing a tunic and crowned with a crescent moon on her head. Our bronze bears Houdon's signature on the base "HOUDON sculp."
Jean-Antoine Houdon, passionate about the art of casting, himself produced two large bronzes of Diane at the Roule workshops in Paris, one in 1782 (San Marino, California), the other in 1790 (Paris, Louvre Museum).
Dimension of the marble base: L: 12cm; D:12cm; H:19cm
