Biography :
Auguste MOREAU 1834 / 1917
Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau, born February 22, 1834 in Dijon and died November 11, 1917 in Malesherbes, was a French sculptor.
Auguste Moreau was the son of sculptor Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau and the younger brother of sculptors Hippolyte Moreau and Mathurin Moreau.
He took up sculpture with his older brother Mathurin.
He made his debut at the 1861 Salon and continued to play an active role at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member. He appeared at the 1910 Salon with Saint Jean et Le Message, a marble statuette.
His favorite subjects - allegories, putti and cupids - are treated with realism and grace.
Auguste was the only one of his siblings not to have received an official award. He is buried in the communal cemetery of Les Lilas.
Auguste Moreau produced mainly art bronzes. Several of his works are in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Troyes and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux.
