Arab rider on the lookout, bronze signed Alfred Dubucand (1828 - 1894)
French sculptor and prize-winning pupil of Antoine-Louis Barye, he made his debut at the 1867 Salon with a wax model of a dead pheasant. He continued with this animal theme throughout his career, very attentive to naturalism and very daring with his patinas. Like his master, he enjoyed experimenting with classical and chemical patinas.
Another part of his work illustrates with great talent and attention orientalist or North African subjects. He distinguishes himself in particular in the representation of horses as here where our Arabian Rider on the lookout renders with great detail the nervousness of the horse, its bridle and its hunting collar decorated with pompons and its elaborate saddle. The rider is dressed in traditional clothes nicely decorated.
This bronze with golden patina is signed on the terrace and in perfect condition.
