Known for his talent in anatomy, Germain Demay was a student of Antoine-Louis Barye around 1839 before becoming his assistant. Between 1844 and 1846, he participated in several exhibitions before ceasing this activity. We find him a few years later, in 1852, at the National Archives, where his first loves still serve him since he entered the sigillary workshop. This little bronze cat, of great naturalism and in perfect condition, must therefore be attributed to its first Parisian period, between 1839 and 1846.
