Emile - Louis Truffot (1843-1896)

Émile Louis Truffot is a famous French sculptor , born in Valenciennes , July 26 , 1843 .

A student of "Francisque Duret" , "Bonnassieux" and "Cavalier" at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris , he exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1863 .
He was awarded a Silver Medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition .

Émile-Louis Truffot sculpted the young shepherd "Jean-Baptiste Jupille"who made French and medical history .
Attacked by a rabid dog , he was the first to receive several anti-rabies injections from Louis Pasteur , which saved his life .
Given the irrefutable effects of the rabies vaccine , Louis Pasteur made his incredible discovery official at the Académie des Sciences .
A commemorative bronze sculpture can be found under the vault of Louis Pasteur's mortuary crypt , and is also depicted on the obverse of the five-franc bill issued by the Banque de France on May 5 , 1966 , and in circulation until 1972 .
We also owe him the monument adorning the facades of the Paris City Hall , of Count Louis-Antoine de Bougainville , explorer and naval officer , who led as Captain , from 1766 to 1769 , the first circumnavigation of the globe , commissioned by the French government .

He is buried in Paris at "Père-Lachaise" Cemetery .
