Lucien Arnaud was a French ceramicist from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. He is particularly known for his role in the creation and management of the Société de Grès Flammés et Céramiques de Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, of which he was the president and main shareholder. The company was founded on November 25, 192012.
Arnaud produced a variety of ceramics, ranging from traditional utilitarian stoneware such as salt cellars, pots and jugs, to artistic pieces, some inspired by the Art Nouveau style. Some of his works were also signed "Primavera" and intended for the department stores Le Printemps3.
His creations include stoneware vases with glazes ranging from light to dark brown, and engraved patterns reminiscent of the works of Jean-Joseph Carriès4. Arnaud also experimented with metallescent enamels and casting techniques obtained by projection of creosote5.
Lucien Arnaud thus marked the history of French ceramics by his innovation and his contribution to the ceramic art of the early 20th century.
