This vase comes from Ciboure, a town in the Pyrénées Atlantiques region, where a pottery specializing in white clay and earth, and black and red colorants was founded in 1919.
This object is signed "C. Fischer", Carmen Fischer (for Rodolphe of the same name), active in Ciboure from 1977 to 1995.
This stoneware "Poterie d'Art" in shades of ochre, beige and grey depicts a picturesque scene from the Basque country. The regional influence is shown on one side by the illustration of a young musician accompanying four young women dancing in traditional dress. On the other side, the artist depicts Basque houses in a mountainous landscape.
The vase has two large black handles, and the neck features the generous foliage of the tree depicted on one side.
