Louis Dage (1935- 1957)
glazed art ceramic of the art deco period workshop of Antony before 1934
Height: 26 cm diameter: 21 cm
He was born in 1885 in Lille and died in 1963 in Saint-Sever. His career was first in the North of France (Fives-Lille, Nimy in Belgium, Billancourt, Antony) and then in Saint-Sever. In 1920 he founded the Faïencerie d'Art d'Antony (95), associated with EugèneVal, an important member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Céramique et de la Verrerie, where he collaborated with :
Jean de La Fontinelle (specialist of animal decorations),
André Villien (a vase signed by both men), -
Georges Cassin (between 1936 and 1937 he worked at the national manufacture of Sèvres then at the Boch factory in Belgium).
Louis Dage supplies the "Pomone" art workshop of the department store "Au bon marché". He was named "Best Worker in France" in 1925. Around 1934, he participated in the design of the Normandie liner. In 1935, the company of the Faïencerie d'Art d'Antony was dissolved.
In 1934, Louis Dage took over the Nouvelle faïencerie de l'Adour in Saint-Sever (40), which he operated until 1963. The production is oriented towards the neo-samadet, the emails more fat and shiny on animal subjects very technical and decorative. Adapting to the shortage of supply during the Second World War Louis Dage sieves pebbles from the Adour, his workshop overlooks the river, then chamotte on the raw earth before glazing and firing them. These sensitive and skilful pieces highlight the creative force of Louis Dage despite the constraints that are inerrant to artistic activity.
