Roger Guérin (1896-1954) was a Belgian ceramist (Bouffioulx) of great renown in the 20th century, especially in the Art Deco period.
Moving from Art Nouveau to Art Deco (between 1915 and 1945), he created vases and sculptures in "GRES SALE GRAND FEU" in a single firing (1300°). He evolved with talent in these two artistic styles, and was contacted to collaborate and produce pieces for well-known artists (Belgian and foreign) such as Marcel Wolfers, Cris Agterberg, Angelo Hecq... Vases with wrought-iron mounts are the fruit of collaboration with François Carion (lighting fixtures and lamp bases for the Muller Frères Lunéville crystal glassworks).
He took part in numerous exhibitions, winning a silver medal at the EXPOSITION INTERNATIONALE DES ARTS DE DECORATIFS INDUSTRIELS ET MODERNES DE PARIS in 1925. Recognized internationally at the time, King Albert acquired several of his works, which can still be seen today at the Palais Royal in Brussels. Most of the major European and even American museums housed his creations, and his international acclaim was definitively confirmed when he was exhibited at the JENSEN GALLERY in NEW YORK.
His preferred forms are vases and, like many artists, Guérin produces an abundance of these small, high-quality pieces.
However, his masterpieces are always larger in size, with carefully thought-out decoration that goes beyond simple flaming. Among these masterpieces are extremely rare dishes, such as the one presented here, which could be a one-off.
