This is a large transfer-decorated (see photos for evidence) platter dating to between 1829 and 1854. The company J Jamieson and Co was located in Barrowstouness (Bo'ness) a thriving town, port and pottery centre. If you are interested, there is some good information about this pottery online at the Scottish Pottery Society.
The platter is in the Forth pattern, marked as such on the back along with the number 12. There is also an imprinted mark stating "Porcelaine oblique, J Jamieson & Co, Bo'ness" with an imprinted flower-like symbol beneath it. Arguably this is evidence of it being an exported piece, but although we know these goods were exported to Europe, there is little inforation on this subject.
The platter is in good condition, there is crazing, some staining, some worn edges, but there are no chips or cracks, just a couple of kiln faults (eg pin holes) and some wear from use eg scratches and some small flakes to the glaze (please see photos).
The colour of the transfer is a beautiful pale purple/lavender blue. It is hard to be precise as in some lights it looks blue, in others pale purple or mauve. It is a very nice example of its type and I hope the photos do it justice, you can always contact me if you need anymore.
Please note that this is a heavy item, weighing ca 1170 g. It measures approximately 35 cms x 28.5 cms.
