Composition vase and saddle in Italian majolica of the 19th century.
The important pansu vase, signed Collis, is with polychrome decorations of the decollation of Saint John the Baptist.
After Salome's dance before King Herod Antipas, the latter grants her a favor. On the advice of her mother Herodias, Salome demands the beheading of the prophet. It is the next moment that the artist has chosen to illustrate, when the two women expose the head of St John the Baptist to the king's subjects.
The short neck is tightened and the lip is flared. The suboval handles are interlaced with snakes.
The base of the body is decorated with acanthus leaves in relief. These elements rest on a pedestal.
The tripod saddle is decorated with flowers, butterflies, cherubs and antique scenes on a blue, yellow and beige background. It rests on three feet with concave lines.
This set of vase and saddle in majolica, which can be dissociated, will bring character and an antique touch to your decoration.
