Large pair of ornamental vases in Paris porcelain. Work from the Empire period - early 19th century, 1810s-1820s.
Beautiful two-sided decoration, on the front of the scenes in the antique style presenting for the vase on the left Marius à Minturne after Drouais, and for the one on the right Oedipus blind and Antigone after Antoni Brodowski, the two main characters represented as old men. The plain back on a matte and shiny purple and gold background. Very beautiful matte and shiny gilding ornamentation throughout the vase, particularly the side handles in swan busts.
Large model, very decorative, formats of this size were a luxury production at the time. Beautiful decor complement from Empire decor.
Our vases are well preserved (fresh gilding, bright colors). They are intact without any accident, no broken part glued back on, no chipping. Very slight localized wear on the base. Superb and very rare in such condition.
A big thank you to Mr. Jean-Claude M. for his very kind information which allowed us to identify the subjects.
