A very beautiful Limoges porcelain vase by Marcel Chaufriasse.
Little is known about this Limoges decorator.
Some sources (Artprice) state that he was born in the 19th century and died in the 20th century, without further details. Two dates are sometimes found next to his name (1926-1990), which appear to be his active dates, the latter probably being the date of his death.
In any case, this fairly prolific Limoges artist left us works of high quality, some of which use the "paste on paste" technique, rivaling Camille Tharaud's work, and others with floral decorations in shades of blue that seem to rival those of the master.
This extremely delicate vase is a perfect illustration of this. It belongs to a series stamped "bleu de four," but in reality, only the top of the vase corresponds to the designation. The ovoid body is a skillful gradation of blue, moving imperceptibly from top to bottom, from oven blue to medium blue, dotted with deep blue foliage and embellished with blooming roses and monochrome foliage.
The neck and base are rimmed in gold.
This vase is in perfect condition, with no cracks or chips, and boasts a beautiful shine that even makes taking photos difficult!
You'll love this delicate piece and can display it alone on a table or mix it with Camille Tharaud pieces that won't overshadow it!
