Japanese porcelain vase with Imari decoration, lotus leaf handle. With their distinctive red and blue floral motifs enhanced with gold, Imari porcelain was a great success in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, imported by the boatload from China and Japan. Mercier merchants then sold them as they were, or transformed them by embellishing them with fine European bronzes gilded with fine gold.

Our vase differs from current productions in that it is decorated with animated scenes of fantastical birds (phoenixes) in cartouches. It's a large format, ideal as a centerpiece on a piece of furniture.

It is in very good condition, with fresh colors and unworn gilding. A few firing cracks.
