A rare and very large Imari dish: rare for its size, 48 cm in diameter, rare for its graphics.
What sets this piece apart from many others is the lightness of its palette.
It's a far cry from the pronounced cobalt blues and shimmering oranges of certain productions. The blues are pale and the orange tones very discreet, apart from those used as a background for four reserves, each containing a bird of paradise.
The center of the dish is very discreet, containing two lotus flowers, symbolizing purity, separated by garlands of flowers.
Four large reserves contain, in pairs, a group of three horses and two figures, all in pastel shades of orange. These two decorations are rare in Imari iconography.
This beautiful Imari dish, which everyone knows takes its name from the export port of Japan, was made in Arita, a small town on the same island.
The lightness of its palette and graphics suggest that it dates from the first half of the 19th century, probably 1830 - 1840.
With him, anything goes! It can join its "congeners" on a wall in the middle of a collection, or stand alone in your entrance hall or living room. Another choice solution! It can be part of a magnificent pair with the slightly different second one we're presenting on the other hand.
