The grisaille decorations on porcelain are none other than shades of gray, often evoking works from the 18th century. The process of this technique appeared in Meissen before 1730 and had a bright future. On this dish in perfect condition, the decoration undoubtedly represents the Oceanid Doris, daughter of Ocean and Thétys, and mother of Amphitrite, recognizable by the veil inflated by the wind and held behind her. Doris usually lights the wedding procession of her daughter with Poseidon with two torches; only one is represented here, perhaps a liberty taken by the artist.
