This five-lobed bowl is a very nice example of its type. It was made in the Tongzhi period and has a hand-written 4 character seal mark to the base. The bowl has been nicely painted with auspicious symbols: pink bats and peaches against a bright yellow background scattered with turquoise clouds and lighter pink wan characters. A greek key pattern has been drawn in red around the top and there's a scrolling border around the foot. The rim has a pale café au lait colour trim and the interior is a greenish-turquoise which was difficult to capture precisely in the photos. On the underside of the bowl, along with the seal mark, you will see the remains of labels.
The condition is very good other than wear to the interior. There are a few kiln faults and a few tiny areas where the yellow has not quite fully covered the area it was intended to, but there is no damage or repairs. Please examine the photos carefully and let me know if you need any more.
The bowl is quite large for this type being 22 cms across at the widest and standing just under 8.5 cms high. It is also heavy, weighing 1045 g.
