Porcelain plate depicting Madeleine reading, after the painting by Correggio, Germany circa 1880. Bears the maker's mark on the back.
The saint is lying on her stomach, leaning back with her right arm to support her head. She is shown reading, holding the book placed open in her left forearm. Her bust is bare, her long reddish-blonde hair surrounded by a blue tunic fixed in her hair, covering her stomach and legs. On her right side: the vase of perfume, the one she poured on Christ's feet at the home of Simon the Pharisee, and the precious nard she anointed Christ with at the home of Simon the Leper, foreshadowing the perfumes of burial.
