Suite of 4 plates with tripod bronze mounts (claw feet), beautiful Imari decoration. Each plate is unique with a different design. Japan, late 19th century, Meiji period.

With their distinctive decoration - red and blue floral motifs enhanced with gold - Imari porcelains were very popular in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, imported by the boatload from China and Japan. Mercier merchants then sold them as they were, or transformed them by embellishing them with fine European bronzes gilded with fine gold.

A fine set, used as paper trays and cake plates. A suite of 4 is rare.
