Here is yet another chinese porcelain pedestal dish made in the later 19th c. This one is slightly higher than the others I am selling and the decoration is a little more carefully applied - at least on the open bowl area. Becnharong pieces were initially made to order for delivery to Thailand, but by the time this one was made, production fuelled by popular demand rather than private orders and exported products went to the wider South East Asian market.
As often happens, increased production led to a decrease in quality, although generally the pieces I have handled feel nicely potted. This one has suffered some fritting to the thin, vulnerable rim one of which has an associated hairline. There is also a second hairline as well plus two chips. All of this should be visible in the photos as long with examples of general wear to the enamels including a little flaking/staining and some manufacturing/kiln faults eg a small L shaped cut in the clay. If you need more photos I can provide them, please ask.
Despite the small areas of damage, the piece is still very pretty and retains the charm that gave rise to their popularity many years ago.The dimensions of this pedestal dish are: height 5.5 cms; diameter 12 cms; and it weighs 192 g.
