Henri Salembier (1753 - 1820)
A Parisian painter and ornamentalist, Henri Salembier published a number of decorative books from 1777 onwards.
These were hugely successful, and were instrumental in the development of the vocabulary used in French
decorative arts at the end of the Ancien Régime and during the revolutionary period. Last but not least
Henri Salembier worked in collaboration with the Manufacture du Duc d'Angoulême: Dihl and Guérhard.
Halley's workshop
[RdPdG] Charles Halley began his career as an earthenware maker on rue Montmartre in Paris. He appeared in almanacs as early as 1793. In 1803, he is mentioned in a notarized deed as an earthenware maker and porcelain merchant. His factory decorated porcelain whites from the Locré and Nast factories, among others. In 1811, Charles Halley united his daughter with the son Lebon, a crystal, earthenware and porcelain merchant.
The partnership formed Halley Lebon, which remained in use until 1822. During the Restoration, Halley Lebon came under the protection of the Comte d'Artois, the future Charles X, and was breveté de Monsieur, the King's brother. Our chocolate mug therefore probably predates 1811.
