Meissen porcelain figurine from the Les cris de Paris series, Vendeuse en pâtisserie (Gebäckverkäuferin). Designed by Peter Reinicke circa 1753-1754. Marked with blue crossed swords and numbered 13, 20th century, height: 13.5cm. Listed in the Meissen Bergmann catalog.
History of Paris criage
The criage appears as a public service under royal authority. Men, women and children strolled the streets, shouting their wares or services to attract customers. Each trade had its own characteristic cry. Meissen was inspired by these trades and created a series of 34 figurines featuring his characters.
