Large porcelain cookie statue depicting an allegory of the sculpting arts: the sculptor, who has just put down his chisel and hammer, is in admiration of his work (Falconet's Bather), which appears to be alive with putti flying around. This important piece rests on a gilded bronze base in the Louis XVI style, enhancing its strong decorative effect. Louis XVI style, late 19th century, apocryphal Sèvres signature for the Samson factory.

Our re-edition is typical of 18th-century taste reinterpreted in the 19th century; here, Manufacture Samson created this group from Falconet's bather, adding the putti and the sculptor, creating a strong decorative effect.

The Samson family's "Manufacture de Porcelaines, faïences et terres cuites" (4 generations) is the finest example, in the field of fire art, of the interest shown in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century in the styles of the past, from the 18th century to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and in all exotic styles, from Spain to Saxony and China. With a rich and varied output of excellent quality, the Samsons were imitation geniuses and the best reproducers of ancient ceramic art. The factory was awarded numerous medals at the Universal Exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century, giving it an international reputation, particularly with museums. In the 19th century, the factory was seen as an excellent manufacturer of perfect copies, but the perfection of its products and the renown it has acquired have made it a sought-after production for enthusiasts, the equivalent of Sormani in the world of ceramics.

This is a large-format, highly furnishable and decorative piece. Ideal to complete an 18th-century decoration, these decorative objects are typical of the period, to be placed on a chest of drawers or mantelpiece. It's an ornate piece from every angle, designed to be viewed from all sides, in the center of a table for example, or with its back to a mirror.

It is in very good condition, with a few minor accidents (2 fingers missing, a small chip to the drape of the toga: very discreet - detail photos available on our website).
