Large Guanyin statue in Blanc de Chine porcelain. Very fine floral decoration in relief. China, late 19th century / early 20th century.
Considered in the West as the goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin is a Buddhist deity, symbolizing the unlimited compassion of the bodhisattva for all beings - human and non-human. She is most often represented draped in a long white dress that covers her from head to toe; wearing a bun; her skin is as white as milk. In meditation, she rests on lotus leaves.
Beautiful large central piece to place on a fireplace or a piece of furniture, to complete an 18th or 19th century decor evoking Chinoiserie or Chinese cabinets.
Very good condition, no accidents, except for a crack and a broken finger on one hand.
