The Porzellanfabrik Unterweißbach was founded in the German region of Thuringia in 1882 by Herman Jost. At first they produced tableware but soon started to make beautiful figurines. Eight years later the factory was taken over by Rudolf Mann and in 1892 the company joined Fritz Porzelius to form Porzellanfabrik Unterweißbach Mann & Porzelius.
Porzellanfabrik Unterweißbach then merged with the Aelteste Volkstedter factory and in 1908 came another merger with Schwarzburger Werkstätten für Porzellankunst.
The Great Depression of the 1930s forced the company into bankruptcy and then into a split. In the period 1936-1940, the Unterweißbach factory belonged to Karl Saar. In 1940, the Schaubach factory in Wallendorf took over the company, reducing the workforce and concentrating on the production of high-quality artistic porcelain.
In 1953, the company was nationalized by the East German government. After the reunification of Germany, the company regained its original name.
