Chinese porcelain Guanyin statue mounted on a gilt bronze base. China, late 19th, early 20th century.
Considered in the West as the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin is a Buddhist deity, symbolizing the Bodhisattva's unlimited compassion for all beings - human and non-human. She is most often depicted draped in a long white robe that covers her from head to toe; her hair is done up in a bun; her skin is as white as milk. In meditation, she rests on Lotus leaves.
Our statue is mounted on a gilded bronze base that was once pierced to make a lamp. Today, it is a centerpiece to be placed on a piece of furniture, to complete an 18th or 19th-century décor evoking Chinoiseries or Chinese cabinets.
Very good condition, no accidents, original firing cracks.
NB: we can propose marble pedestals to enhance the decorative effect - please contact us.
