BARA (or BARRA) Joseph, a soldier famous for his heroism, born in Palaiseau in 1779, killed near Cholet in 1793. He had followed General DESMARRES in the Republican army as a hussar. Caught in an ambush and ordered to shout "Long live the King", he replied with "Long live the Republic", and fell pierced by blows. The Convention decreed that the bust of the glorious child would be placed in the Pantheon, and that an engraving depicting his patriotic devotion would be sent to all elementary school.
