"Baigneuse aux hirondelles" after Auguste Joseph Peiffer in white biscuit , France, late 19th century.
Depicted seated on a natural rock, the nude young woman is delicately turned to the left in a collected posture, her arms crossed on her knees, her gaze downcast. A drapery falls softly from her waist to her legs, while three swallows in flight or posed complete the composition at her feet. The back of the naturalistic base is adorned with vegetation in slight relief. J. Peiffer's signature is engraved on the rock at the back of the base.
This model is a faithful reproduction of the marble entitled Les Hirondelles, presented by Auguste Joseph Peiffer at the 1878 Salon. The original work is now in Champigny-sur-Marne.
Condition: good overall; slight chips at the tips of the swallows' wings and fine traces of firing visible at the base.
