A rich composition for this 17th-century Flemish still life, which is comparable to the work of Jan Pauwel Gillemans the Elder.
This composition features in the foreground a large copper basin with a gadrooned belly from which a quantity of fruit such as grapes, melons, and large gourds seem to be emerging, as well as a large bouquet of flowers with a wide variety of subtle colors and details. On either side are painted a dog and a monkey held by a chain under the gaze of a parrot perched on a branch.
In the background, an architectural element and a landscape with tall trees and mountains complete the picture.
While the painting shows some wear, it nonetheless remains a very interesting and rare decoration. Still on its original canvas, this painting is comparable to the work of Jan Pauwel Gillemans the Elder (Antwerp 1618-1675).
