    Eugène Henri CAUCHOIS (1850-1911)

    Biography:
    Eugène Cauchois, born in Rouen (Seine Maritime) on February 14, 1850, died in Paris on October 7, 1911.
    A French painter, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in the studios of Ferdinand Dubos and Alexandre Cabanel. He specialized in still-life compositions based on fruit, flowers and kitchen utensils. He also painted landscapes and marine views.
    In 1876 in Paris, he married Louise Ladevèze, with painter Eugène Capelle as best man.
    He stayed in Brussels in 1878-1879. He was in the habit of signing his paintings with the name of the month in which they were painted.
    Towards the end of his life, Eugène Cauchois took up decorative painting with floral compositions.
    He had a Parisian studio at no. 32 rue des Dames in Paris (17th arrondissement). The painter Marcellin Desboutin (1823-1902) was his neighbor.

    Eugène Cauchois made his debut at the 1874 Salon, then sent his works to the Salon des Artistes Français in 1881, 1890 (where he became a member), 1898 (third-class medal), 1904 (second-class medal) and 1908 (Le train a passé; Mélancolie).
