    This oil on canvas depicts Simon of Cyrene helping Christ to carry the Cross. The fifth station of the Way of the Cross traditionally illustrates this episode from the Gospel according to Saint Luke: "As they were leading Jesus away, they took a certain Simon of Cyrene, who was returning from the fields, and loaded him with the cross to carry it behind Jesus".

    Our 17th-century oil on canvas has been refinished and is in good condition. Its polychromy features red and shades of green.
    Framed in blackened wood and Marie-Louise velvet.
