Large oil on panel by a Flemish school of the late 18th or early 19th century in an elegant carved and gilded frame.
The body of Christ is laid on the anointing stone before being placed in the tomb. Joseph of Arimathea grasps a shroud to wrap Christ's body, while the grieving Virgin is shown holding her son's head. Saint John gently takes Christ's hand, while Mary Magdalene, at the Savior's feet, hides her face.
Two angels, original to this work, frame the scene, one of them carrying the Holy Cross.
A few cracks in the wood and micro-losses.
Dimensions 84 cm by 31
With frame measuring 96 cm by 43 cm.
