Antique oil on wood painting by the Lombard school depicting Pentecost.

This lively 18th-century painting depicts the Gospel episode of Pentecost, or the Descent of the Holy Spirit, which occurred 50 days after Christ's resurrection.

The Virgin Mary is at the center of the scene, surrounded by the Apostles, who assume attitudes and expressions of astonishment as the flames descend upon them.

The dove representing the Holy Spirit is also placed at the center of the architecture.

The composition of the scene is particularly pleasing, both for the remarkable depiction of the characters and for the splendid colors typical of the period to which it belongs.
