Benoît Pécheux.
Born in 1779 in Rome Died after 1831 in Paris.
Painter of history and portraits. A student of his father Laurent Pécheux, he won the grand prize of the Parma academy in 1794. He was appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Turin in 1796. He was responsible for decorative paintings at the tileworks at the Louvre, and at the Château de St Cloud. He also painted an ascension for the church of St Godard in Rouen, and for that of Yvetot an annunciation, an immaculate conception and an assumption.
Our painting represents a young girl in a rather singular way, in fact the portraits are often posed and academic, here on the contrary, we have the impression of a snapshot, of a photo taken unexpectedly, surprising in its reading this young girl who smiles at us.
