This oil on canvas by Arthur Midy is a reproduction of "The Man with the Golden Helmet", long attributed to Rembrandt and de-attributed in 1986.
Arthur Midy was born in Saint Quentin en Yveline. From the age of twelve, his talent as a painter was encouraged by the town, which awarded him numerous prizes and awards, and financed his training at the Beaux-Arts. At the same time, he studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1897 to 1928. It was at the age of 28 that he discovered Le Faouët, and began to paint genre scenes and landscapes, abandoning the historical and biblical subjects for which he had been trained. From then on, he divided his time between Paris and Le Faouët.
This work was executed with great mastery and the technique is very interesting, but it is in poor condition. There is a great deal of rubbing, cracking and missing paint, and three large holes. Traces of wear and missing parts can be seen in our photos.
The wooden frame is in fair condition.
The work is sold uncleaned and unrestored.
For condition, please detail photos.
