This oil on canvas was made by Arthur Midy, it is a reproduction of "The Man with the Golden Helmet" which was long attributed to Rembrandt and disattributed in 1986.
Arthur Midy was born in Saint Quentin en Yveline. From the age of twelve, his talents as a painter were encouraged by the city, which awarded him multiple prizes and awards, and financed his training at the Beaux-Arts. He also followed an artistic training at the Académie Julian in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1897 to 1928. It was at the age of 28 that he discovered Le Faouët, and that he learned about genre scenes and landscapes, abandoning the historical or biblical subjects for which he was trained. From then on he would share his life between Paris and Le Faouët. This work was done with great mastery and the technique is very interesting, however it is in poor condition. We report many rubbing marks on the painting, cracks and losses, you will notice three important holes. Traces of wear and losses visible in our photos.
The wooden frame is in a suitable state of conservation.
The work is sold uncleaned, unrestored.
For the condition, please detail the photos.
