*Jérome-Martin Langlois (1779-1838):
was a French neo-classical painter. He was the son of miniaturist Jérôme Langlois (1753-1804), who initially disapproved of his vocation as a painter. However, this did not prevent Jérome-Martin Langlois from joining Jacques-Louis David's studio. He was commissioned by his master to produce an unsigned copy of Marat assassiné, and replaced Jean-Pierre Franque as assistant on the Sabines. First Prix de Rome in 1809 with Priam aux pieds d'Achille, he exhibited at the Salon de peinture from 1805. A close friend of David, he was the last to paint his portrait when the latter was in exile in Brussels. In 1838, shortly before his death, he was named a member of the Institut.
Artist highly rated on ArtPrice.
