Portrait of a young woman in a white dress, green armchair and diamond-decorated wallpaper, good color differentiation, signed and dated 1895 lower right, oil/canvas, approx. 58x46cm (unframed).

This is probably a portrait of Mary Ann Brown, who was 17 when this portrait was painted and whom the painter married in 1901. Together they had three children.

Beach, Ernest George (1865-1943)
Painter of portraits, genre scenes and landscapes in oil, watercolor and pastel. Born in Camden Town, London, son of a hardware merchant, he studied art in London and Paris. He exhibited from 1888 to 1922 at the Royal Art Gallery, the Société des Beaux-Arts and elsewhere. Titles exhibited at the RA: "Goodbye! Holland", 1898, and "The Cottage Meadow", 1908. He often worked in France, Holland and Belgium. He lived in London and in Dover and Hythe, Kent.
This painting bears witness to the craftsman's skill and attention to detail that define his work.
