    Early 19th century French school, large full-length portrait of a little girl. Oil on canvas, signed with a monogram SR and dated 1827. The painting is presented in its original large frame, gilded with gold leaf.

    Typical of the Romantic period, the little girl is shown in a white linen dress, barefoot in the forest. In the folds of her dress, she carries all the treasures she has found in nature: flowers, herbs and snails, and gazes with her blue eyes at a songbird she wishes she could add to her collection. It's an allegory of childlike innocence.

    A lovely painting, charming for its freshness, delicate colors and theme. In its large format, it's a highly furnishing piece, full of poetry.

    The painting is in excellent condition, having been cleaned and restored in 2004. The gold-leaf frame has been cleaned by our gilder, and the original gilding is very well preserved.
