Albert Cuyp (entourage) Dordrecht, October 20, 1620, buried November 15, 1691
Albert, Aelbert or Aelbrecht Jacobsz. Cuyp, was a Dutch painter of landscapes, seascapes, animals, still lifes and portraitist of the Golden Age, descended from an illustrious line of artists active in Dordrecht.
Our painting appears to be a study for a larger picture, as the brushstroke is extremely sure and fast.
In the background are two seated figures, two dogs, another rider and his horse, a peacock and a hen, and a guardian hidden in the frame's rabbet.
