English history was fashionable in the arts of the first half of the 19th century. The theme of Edward's children was disseminated by Paul Delaroche in an 1830 painting (Louvre) and in an 1852 revival known through engraving. But other artists also took up the subject, such as François-Michel Pascal and Alexandre-Evariste Fragonard.
Edward V and the Duke of York are imprisoned in the Tower of London. They huddle together, glimpsing their fateful destiny of being murdered, allegedly at the behest of their uncle, the future King Richard 3, although historians and specialists of the period are not certain.
