Rare and Delightful Suite of Four Watercolors Representing the Four Seasons. Russian school.
Each watercolor is signed by the artist Mikhail Yakovlev (1880 - 1942) and dated 1936, Paris.
Very fine shades of color, interesting subjects.
Mikhail Yakovlev (1880 - 1942)
Painter, draughtsman and theater designer born and died in Russia. Studied at the Stroganov School from 1898 to 1900, then at the Penza Academy from 1900 to1901. He then studied with Ilya Repine at the Saint Petersburg Academy. He was successively a Symbolist and an Impressionist.
From 1910 onwards, his work as a painter doubled as a set designer for the Moscow theater. Lived in France and Belgium (1923-1937). Lived in Moscow from 1937 to 1941. Then moved to Tblilissi, where he died in 1942.
