Very nice old gilded wood frame from the 18th century
Like the painting by Johannes Janson exhibited in the Louvre, this is a "typical example of retrospective pastiche - much appreciated in the 18th c. - of the recognized masters of the Golden Age, specialists of the Dutch rustic landscape, Potter, Adriaen van de Velde or Dujardin. We recognize in our painting his way of representing trees and animals (the horse on the left) and the silhouette of his small characters with bright colors that also recall the masters of the seventeenth century such as David Teniers.
This village fair is a rich composition of many characters, musicians, drummers, peasants and children. Very cheerful, the scene has the charm of the festive atmosphere of the Dutch countryside with many picturesque details such as the dancers with a glass or a jug in their hands, the dishes or baskets filled with victuals, the child playing with a dog or the musician with a violin who enlivens the assembly; and the bright and frank colors characteristic of the 17th century Dutch genre painters with these reds, yellows, blues and oranges.
