JOYET (Jean) was born on May 25, 1919 in Saint-Victurnien (Haute-Vienne) and died on April 12, 1994 in Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine). Painter, engraver, lithographer and sculptor at the School of Paris, he was admitted to the workshops of the painter Jean Dupat and René Jaudon for lithography. Winner of the Casa de Velázquez prize, Jean Joyet spent two years in Madrid, from 1951 to 1952. This stay and his admiration for Goya profoundly influenced his work as a painter and engraver. His landscapes and bullfighting scenes, as well as his copper-engraved caricatures of French politicians, testify to this influence. In the 1960s, Jean Joyet painted maternity wards, children, nudes, and devoted himself more and more to sculpture.
