Signed lower left H.Vollet, this painting is located and dated on the back of the stretcher 1932.
Henri VOLLET, born in 1861 in Champigny-sur-Marne, was a pupil of Fernand Cormon, a painter whose studio at the Beaux- Arts saw the work of such renowned artists as Vincent van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Lin Fengmian. Henry Emile Vollet enjoyed the recognition of the art world of his time. He received an honorable mention for his work at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1888, as well as a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1900, and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1904. He died in 1945.
