Pair of framed paintings (oil on canvas), one representing the departure for hunting and the other the hunters' picnic (probably Vendée)
These 2 paintings are signed by the Vendée artist François Brillaud (1846-1916): son of grocers, in 1897 he created a copy of the baptism of Christ after Francesco Albani which he presented to the general council of Vendée and earned him the award of a study pension for fine arts in Paris. There will be Jules Breton and Isidore Pils as teachers.
Under the influence of Jules Breton, he initially painted scenes of peasant life, portraits of his family and local notables.
From 1898, sensitive to the public's taste for Art Nouveau, he painted nudes and genre scenes.
We also owe him some still lifes and later scenes of military life in which we find Pils's teaching.
He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes between 1877 and 1912.
His paintings can be seen at the La Roche sur Yon Museum and at the Nantes Museum of Fine Arts.
