ABOUT THE ARTIST
"What luck for artists from all regions and countries to discover, work and create in Paris, this melting pot of painting in all eras. The Neapolitan Dominique TORTÈS devoted himself enthusiastically to the Paris of the Belle Epoque, a fertile period if ever there was one in terms of the inspiration of artists. Curious and endearing with TORTÈS, is that he masters a surprisingly modern touch when he paints the grand boulevards with their cabs, their advertising columns, the quays and their walkers, very much in 1900 fashion. With wit and sensitivity, he magnifies the light of the sky both during the day and at sunset without neglecting the warm impact of the street lamps, while streets and monuments multiply their seduction thanks to a number of lively and expressive reflections of the urban climate, sunny or chagrin of rain. By thus painting the Paris of yesterday, Dominique TORTÈS maintains the continuity and charm of discoveries and atmospheres under a palette of fresh colors and the dynamic touch of a spiritual brush".
