Biography :
Aurel Naray was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1883. He was a self-taught artist and social critic. He worked with art teacher and academic painter Zsigmond Vajda (1860-1931) for 6 months, but had no other conventional artistic training. He exhibited at the Nemzeti Szalon (National Salon) in 1921 and 1924, then in America and throughout Europe. In 1924, he traveled to the United States and exhibited extensively. Naray's themes include depictions of women, children, idyllic folk life and imaginary landscapes, flowers (the petals having a fireworks-like energy) and especially paintings of ecclesiastical subjects. His works are included in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.
