He studied at the Fine Arts of San Fernando, before receiving a scholarship from the French Institute and the Juan March Foundation to join the famous School of Paris where he immersed himself in the poetic and expressionist baroque style which identifies the painting by Chagall and Picasso. His still lifes, portraits and some of his landscapes are constructed, deconstructed, composed of geometric blocks which fit together harmoniously in colorful compositions.
Although he resides in France, he maintains a strong presence in Spain and participates in numerous exhibitions. In 1957, he received the Young French Painting Prize and the Grand Prix for Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1982.
Úbeda's work is today part of Spanish heritage and his paintings can be seen in many international museums, from Madrid to San Diego, via Paris and Geneva. He taught at the San Fernando School before being appointed professor of the Fine Arts department in 1980, of which he became president in 1987. The painter passed away during the year 2007, leaving behind him a important work for Spanish heritage.
